Pay questions

What is a typical hourly rate in London?
The minimum hourly rate is £5.05 for people aged 21 or over, or £4.25 for people under 21. Most unskilled hotel and catering work will pay between £5 and £6 per hour. Skilled work (e.g. in an office) can pay more.
- If you are a waiter or waitress you can also earn tips; if this is the case the hourly rate of pay may be less than the minimum wage.

When will I be paid?
Pay can be weekly, fortnightly (2 weekly) or monthly depending on the employer. Sometimes pay in made 'in arrears' which means that the employer always has a week or more of your pay; this is common in many hotel and catering jobs to help ensure that people do not leave without giving adequate notice.
